Lauren Conrad’s New Digs!

07-231651_28.jpg

Just heard that LC from The Hills is moving on up out of her Park La Brea apartment into a house in LA. Thanks to one of my favorite celeb location blogs – The Real Estalker – www.realestalker.blogspot.com – you can see the inside of it. 🙂

According to Real Estalker, Lauren’s house is on North Orange Grove Avenue in Los Angeles. Of course, I just had to do a little Google searching to see if I could come up with the exact address and sure enough I found a whole site about the house: http://trulia.prudentialcal.com/Listing/ListingDetail.aspx?Listing=26258682

Can’t wait to go stalk it! 🙂

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: LC’s new digs are located at 1627 N. Orange Grove Avenue in Los Angeles. Remember this is a private home, so no trespassing or bothering our favorite Laguna Beach alum!

The Friends Apartment

img_02071.jpg

Another one of my must-see New York filming locations from my first trip to the Big Apple was the Friends Apartment. The apartment is actually located right in the same neighborhood as Carrie’s brownstone and SJP’s house. I could hardly contain myself as we walked up to the building – I felt like I had waited years to see it in person and here I was!

img_02172.jpg

The building is actually pretty unremarkable in person and chances are if it wasn’t featured on TV for ten seasons, you’d probably walk right by it without even giving it a second glance. But thanks to TV magic, it will be forever stalked and remembered. Be on the lookout for the countless tour-groups walking by the building – we saw three stop by in the ten minutes we were there! My boyfriend was thankful he was dating a stalker and didn’t have to shell out $65 for a look at the Friends Apartment. 🙂

img_0218.jpg

New York’s narrowest house (only 9 1/2 feet wide!) is located just a block away at 75 1/2 Bedford Street. John Barrymore and poet Edna St. Vincent Millay have both called it home.

I found both locations in one of my favorite tour books – “New York: The Movie Lover’s Guide” by Richard Alleman. You can pick it up on Amazon.

I highly recommend purchasing it before any visit to NY. 🙂

img_02141.jpg

Stalk It: The Friends Apartment is located at 90 Bedford Street, at the corner of Bedford and Grove, in Greenwich Village. You’ll recognize it immediately when you walk up to it. The many tour-groups stopped in front might give it away, too! A quick tip for posing for photos at the apartment – be sure to stand in the middle of the street and not directly in front of the building – otherwise you’ll come out too small in the pic. After your Friends stalking adventure, stop in to Chumley’s at 86 Bedford Street for a drink and a bite to eat. Chumley’s is a former speakeasy and still resides in an unmarked building. You can even enter through the secret entryway leftover from the prohibition days!

Take a Tour of the Charmed House!

Just got a comment on my Charmed page from Gary, who heard tours are given of the interior of the Charmed House and he needed me to investigate!

After scouring Google, I found this website which describes walking tours of Angelino Heights (where the Charmed House is located) given by the Los Angeles Conservancy. According to the author of the blog, the owner of the Charmed home allows guests on the tour to view the interior of his property. You can learn more about the tour and make reservations on the Los Angeles Conservancy’s website.

Scroll down to “Angelino Heights” under “Tour Descriptions” to learn more about the tour.

Don’t be disappointed when you see the interior, though. While Charmed does use the Carroll Avenue home to film exteriors, the interiors are filmed exclusively on a sound-stage.

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: Tours of Angelino Heights are given the first Saturday of every month at 10am. You can make reservations here. The Conservancy recommends booking far in advance. This tour sounds pretty incredible, even for those who aren’t Charmed fans. You will get to see some incredible architecture and some of the most unique homes in Los Angeles!

Father of the Bride House

fatherofbride.jpeg

Had a request today from a co-worker to post the location of the Father of the Bride house . Even though in the movie Steve Martin proclaims that he lives in the town of San Marino, his character’s home is actually located a short distance north of San Marino, in Pasadena. The home is beautiful in person, and looks exactly the same as it did in the movie. But rumor has it that before filming began the house was in bad shape. The filmmakers came in and repainted the exterior, added new landscaping and a white picket fence, and the rest, as they say, is movie history. The house came up for sale in 1999 and the realtor marketed it as the “Father of the Bride House” causing “stalkers” to flock to the open house in droves! I so wish I had lived in Southern California at that time so I could have toured it!

The filmmakers also returned to the same house in 1995 to shoot the sequel, Father of the Bride II.

I discovered this filming location in “The Ultimate Hollywood Tour Book” by William A. Gordon – a must have stalking guide for Southern California!

Stalk It: The Father of the Bride house is located at 843 S. El Molino Ave. in Pasadena, off of Colorado Blvd. You can purchase “The Ultimate Hollywood Tour Book” on Amazon. The book is updated and republished with new information almost every year. And yes, I have almost every updated version. 🙂

Everybody Loves A Stalker!

This weekend I dragged my boyfriend to the Beverly Hills Hotel on the pretense of having a drink at one of our favorite bars – The Polo Lounge – but the real reason for our outing was so that I could pick up the 2008 version of my favorite LA star map – the “Movie Star Homes and Crime Scenes” Map – from the gift shop of the BH Hotel. I find it amusing that I always get asked where I am visiting from when I purchase these maps. 🙂

sushi.jpeg

We had a nice drink at the Polo Lounge and then headed off to Hakata Sushi on Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica for dinner. While there, I couldn’t help but pull out my star map for a look at what new items had been published since the 2007 version. Well, the sushi chefs went absolutely crazy over the map and begged to see it. I gladly handed it over and they could not take their eyes off of it – so much so that the manager of the restaurant came over and made them put it away! This just goes to show that everybody loves a stalker! 🙂

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: The Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel is a great place to grab a drink and do some serious star stalking. During my many visits to the Polo Lounge, I have seen Paris Hilton, Reese Witherspoon, Elle MacPherson and Kirk Kevorkian – just to name a few. I hear Jen Aniston is a regular, but I have yet to see her there. 🙁 The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows is located in Beverly Hills at 9641 Sunset Blvd. You can purchase new star maps yearly in the gift shop of the hotel. Hakata Sushi is located at 2830 Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica and is something of a celeb hangout, as well. Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Charlie Sheen have all frequented the restaurant. They have great food and a fun atmosphere.

Beverly Hills, 90210!

90210 house

If you lived out your high school years sometime during the nineties, I am sure you were as obsessed with Beverly Hills, 90210 as I was. Big houses, fancy cars, expensive clothes, Luke Perry – what was not to love about the teen soap opera? The Walsh Family’s Spanish Style Beverly Hills home was the very first filming location I ever found – and it is still my very favorite! For some odd reason, I am still just as crazy obsessed with 90210 now as I was 10 years ago when it was on the air!

The Walsh House is not actually located in Beverly Hills. Like many of the other 90210 filming locations, the home is located in  the Pasadena area. It looks much the same as it did back in the 90210days, and most people will be interested to know that real life boy and girl twins live there. Legend has it that the interior of the home, including Brandon and Brenda’s shared bathroom, was modeled after the real home’s interior. The house is still owned by the same family as it was in the 90210 days. The father was a Pasadena area school teacher who was able to retire due to the money he made from his home being used on such a popular TV show! When you drive by, be sure to look down the driveway for the basketball hoop attached to the garage. Yes, it’s the same one where Brandon and Jim often played driveway basketball and talked about their new life in Beverly Hills.

Unlike most homes used in television shows, the house on Altadena Drive was actually used as a filming location many times during the years 90210 was on the air.  For most TV productions, film crews simply shoot a few establishing shots of exteriors that they then use over and over again during the course of a show’s run. But 90210 often returned to the actual home to shoot on location. A few episodes you might remember – when the Walsh twins discover Emily Valentine has left brownies at their front door; when Brandon’s girlfriend from Minnesota comes to visit and chooses to ride in Dylan’s Porsche rather than Brandon’s car, Mondale; after Jackie and Mel’s wedding when Dylan goes speeding off in his Porsche leaving Brenda at the curb pining after him; and when 49er Quarterback Steve Young plays a game of football with Brandon in their front yard.

img_1832.jpg

Conveniently located just a few doors down from the Walsh Home, on the corner of East Altadena Dr. and Porter Avenue is Dylan McKay’s craftsman bungalow. The home is much bigger in person than it seemed when it played the role of bachelor pad for emancipated minor Dylan McKay. Not only is it a beautiful home, but it is also an excellent representation of the Craftsman Style architecture that is popular in Pasadena.

When the Peach Pit was remodeled during Season Two of Beverly Hills, 90210, the filmmakers used Ruby’s Diner in Pasadena to film the exterior of the gang’s hangout. Unfortunately, Ruby’s Diner closed its doors in 2005, and a new restaurant moved in. Although little has changed on the exterior of the old Ruby’s Diner, it is pretty hard to recognize the place as Brandon and Brenda’s home away from home. The new restaurant has been painted a bright yellow, but the double silver doors that used to open to the Peach Pit, remain.

file000.jpg

The Beverly Hills Beach Club is another sad story, as this filming location no longer exists. It was badly damaged during the Northridge Earthquake and was never repaired. At the present time it is being torn down to build a new beach club. It used to be located at 415 Pacific Coast Highway, next to the Back on the Beach restaurant. The beach club has an interesting history, as it was originally a 118 room mansion built by William Randloph Hearst for his mistress Marion Davies. In 1955, the main house was torn down and the servants quarters were turned into the Sand and Sea Club, which closed in 1991, just as Beverly Hills, 90210 was heating up. After the Northridge Quake, the property was boarded up and fenced in and it sat vacant for years. One used to be able to walk right up to it and spot where Kelly and the gang spent their many summers.

Note – this was the very same beach club that was used during one summer season of Saved by the Bell – the same summer that Zack fell in love with Stacey Carossi.

Most of these locations I found in one of my favorite stalking books, “The Ultimate Hollywood Tour  Book” by William L. Holden.  It is a GREAT resource for stalkers everywhere!

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: Brandon and Brenda’s home is located at 1675 East Altadena Dr. in Altadena, CA. You can exit directly onto Altadena Drive off the 210 Freeway – just head north about three miles and the home will be on your right. Dylan’s home is located about half a block away at 1605 E. Altadena Dr. I recommend making a right on Porter Avenue and then a left on Crest Dr. to see the extent of the property. It’s pretty incredible. You can find the Peach Pitt a few miles away at 45 S. Fair Oaks Avenue in Old Town Pasadena.

The Beach Club used to be located in Santa Monica at 415 Pacific Coast Highway.  You can still see some remnants of the Club today, but sadly, most of it has already been torn down.  I would recommend grabbing breakfast next door, at Back on the Beach Restaurant and afterwards walking by the former beach club.  Be sure to try the mocha’s at Back on the Beach – they are fantastic!

Ringing in the New Year with the Real Housewives of Orange County (or at least one of their offspring!)

img_1795.jpg

I spent my New Year’s 2008 at the Happiest Place on Earth – Disneyland – with my boyfriend, my good friend Nat and Kara Keogh! While in line for California Screamin’, the roller coaster at Disneyland’s California Adventure, my boyfriend happened to notice Kara, the daughter of Jeana Keogh from the Real Housewives of Orange County, standing a few yards behind us. I was super excited as Jeana and Kara are the only two people on Real Housewives that I like – they are the only two people on that show with half a brain.

I managed to snap a pic of Kara while in line, but I guess I wasn’t very subtle about it because after that she kept staring at me and smiling and laughing. She actually seemed totally cool about it and not at all peeved about running into a stalker at the Happiest Place on Earth. At one point she totally started waving at me when I looked at her – but I think she was actually making fun of me, not just being friendly.

My friend Nat said I should have bought the picture of Kara that Disney took while she was on California Screamin’ , but I thought that might just be crossing the line a little bit! 🙂

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

What Not To Shear – Nick Arrojo’s Studio in New York

I guess I come by my obsessions naturally – the apple does not fall too far from the tree as they say, because my mom has been completely obsessed with the show What Not To Wear for years now. She is especially obsessed with Nick Arrojo, the hairstylist from the TLC makeover show. She had been chattering for over two years about how much she wanted Nick to cut her hair – so this year for her birthday we surprised her with a haircut from Nick which we scheduled during our New York vacation. Needless to say my mom was SUPER EXCITED! She cried for about ten minutes after she found out.

Finding Nick’s salon was easy – I just did a Google search of Nick Arrojo and What Not To Wear, and his website – www.arrojostudio.com – popped up. Then I called and simply made an appointment. It was that easy.

img_0317.jpg Flash forward six weeks to our trip in New York – my mom was so excited she could hardly talk! I was a little nervous, as the receptionist had told me when I made the appointment that my mom would get 45 minutes with Nick. That didn’t seem like very much time and I was worried that the whole appointment would be rushed and my mom wouldn’t get the special attention I wanted her to have. I could not have been more wrong! We were at Nick’s studio for over 3 hours and my mom was made to feel like she was queen for the day. The appointment was not rushed in any way, shape or form, and Nick could not have been any more humble or down to earth. His assistant, Nicole, was fabulous, as well.

img_0321.jpg Overall, it was a perfect day for my mom, and an even more perfect birthday present. If you are a fan of Nick, I highly recommend saving your pennies and booking a haircut – you will not regret it.

img_0410.jpg

img_0412.jpg Oh and my mom’s hair turned out FABULOUS! She loves it -everyone loves it. The only downside is that now that we are back in LA she has no idea how she is going to find a stylist to maintain it. Guess we’ll just have to head back to New York!

Stalk It: Nick’s studio is located at 180 Varick Street in SoHo, New York. Their telephone number is (212)242-7786. I would recommend calling for an appointment at least a month in advance. A haircut from Nick will run you $500, but it is worth every penny! If you would like a less expensive haircut, you can get sheared by one of his trained stylists for a fraction of the cost.

Maddox’s School

img_1675.jpg Even though I am 100 percent on Team Aniston, while I was in New York, one of my obsessions was finding Maddox’s school. I was really hoping Brad and Angie would be in town and I could just park myself in front of the school and wait for a sighting. 🙂 But, for this stalker, it was not to be.

Maddox’s school wasn’t hard to find at all – I just did a Google search for “Maddox school New York” on my trusty Blackberry and up it came – Lycee Francais on East 75th Street. I knew it had to be somewhere on the exclusive Upper East Side and sure enough, it was.

img_1676.jpg When we got there, I immediately recognized the metal and glass doors from the hundreds of paparazzi photos taken of Maddox’s comings and goings from the school. When I posed in front of the doors to take a picture, a guy inside gave me a pretty dirty look. Lycee Francais must not be very stalker friendly.

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: Lycee Francais is located at 505 W. 75th Street – pretty much on the corner of 75th and York – on the Upper East Side. After checking out Maddox’s alma mater, journey just a few blocks west to Via Quadronno at 25 E. 73rd Street for an Upper East Side breakfast of awesome cappuccinos and the best croissants you will ever eat!

You’ve Got Filming Locations!

One of my favorite New York movies is You’ve Got Mail. On my various trips to NY I have tracked down a few of the filming locations.

img_0332.jpg You’ve Got Mail was filmed entirely on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The Shop Around the Corner is, in actuality – yes, you are reading this correctly – a cheese and antique shop. Very odd, I know. It is called Maya Schaper Cheese and Antiques. Only the exterior of Maya’s was used for filming and unfortunately it looks very different in person. The producers brought in a faux exterior that made the shop look much more charming than it does in real life. And let’s just say the owner of the shop was not as “enchanting” as Kathleen Kelly, either. She wasn’t very nice or talkative when I went in to ask about the filming. Not everyone loves a stalker, I guess. This location I found in the book New York: The Movie Lover’s Guide by Richard Alleman.

img_0335.jpg The Shop Around the Corner was actually based on a real life children’s bookstore in NYC called “Books of Wonder.” This is a really cute bookshop for kids and I would recommend visiting. I got this little bit of trivia and location off of the trivia link on IMDB’s You’ve Got Mail page.

One of the great benefits to stalking is that you often happen upon really great restaurants or places to visit. One of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat in New York I actually discovered while stalking You’ve Got Mail. Grey’s Papaya, located on West 71st and Broadway, serves up the BEST hot-dogs you will ever eat! Its other claim to fame is that it was the location where Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks ate lunch in front of a window towards the end of the movie.

img_0740.jpg The Starbucks from YGM, where Joe makes a witty observation about decision making, is located on the corner of 81st Street and Broadway. Grab a coffee to go – all this stalking will make you tired! This location, as well as the next two, I found on the official website for You’ve Got Mail, which has a map of several filming sites from the movie.

img_0738.jpg Cafe Lalo, where Joe Fox first realizes that Shopgirl is actually Kathleen Kelly, is a very, very quaint little cafe on the Westside. I have NO idea how the heck they could possibly film anything inside of it, as the place is truly minuscule. It is really cute, though, and serves up some great espresso.

img_0743.jpg Another Westside location for YGM is Zabar’s grocery store, a fabulous gourmet store on the Westside that is unlike any other grocery store I have ever seen. It has possibly everything you could ever want – including an espresso bar, cooking utensils, and every cheese imaginable! Zabar’s was used for the scene where Meg Ryan steps into the “Cash Only” line without any cash to pay for her groceries.

img_1661.jpg Last, but not least, is the 91st Street Garden, where Kathleen and Joe finally get together at the very end of the movie. This location was easy to find, as the characters kiss right in front of a sign that says “91st Street Garden.” From that point, I just googled “91st Street Garden” and it turns out it was right where I thought it would be – on the Westside near 91st street. The garden is a bit hard to find, as it is off the beaten path in Riverside Park. It is also extremely small in person, so it was not what I was expecting. In December, there isn’t much to see, but I am sure it is absolutely beautiful in the spring and summer months!

The one YGM location that has always escaped me is Meg Ryan’s brownstone. Oh well, there’s always next year’s trip to NYC to stalk it.

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: Spend a day on the Westside! Maya Shaper Cheese and Antiques is located at 106 W. 69th Street. Watch out for the owner – she may bite! Books of Wonder is located at 18 W. 18th Street. Grey’s Papaya can be found at 2090 Broadway between West 71st and West 72nd streets. Get the Recession Special – two dogs and a drink for $3.50 – and eat in the window just like Meg and Tom! Starbucks is located at the corner of Broadway and 81st Street – don’t get it confused with the 50 other Starbucks on the Westside. Cafe Lalo is located on 83rd Street between Broadway and Amsterdam. Zabar’s is at 2245 Broadway at 81st Street – bring your grocery list! Finally, the 91st Street Garden is located in Riverside Park in between 90th and 91st Streets – but be careful, blink and you might miss it!
