Where It All Began

img_0986.jpg Since I’ve blogged about LC’s homes past and present for the last few days , I thought I’d come full circle and write about where it all began – LC’s home in Laguna Beach, California. One day last year, back when I was on Team Kristin, I dragged my boyfriend to Laguna Beach to stalk all of the Laguna Beach: The Real O.C. filming locations. LC’s house was pretty easy to find actually. We just stopped into one of the local motels in Laguna and I asked the front desk clerk, who was about 19, where some of the Laguna Beach filming spots were located. Turns out he went to Laguna Beach High with LC and the gang and he pointed me in the direction of a few of the locations, the best one being Lauren’s house.

img_0984.jpg He told me to just drive south on Coast Highway a few miles and that I couldn’t miss Lauren’s house up on the hill overlooking the Pacific. Sure enough, there it was! Lauren’s house is absolutely beautiful in person and incredibly huge. I can’t even imagine living there!! Unfortunately LC’s house is located on a private road in a gated community, so you can’t drive by it.

img_0987.jpg LC’s guard shack – the only thing that can stop a stalker.

img_0979.jpg Another location I was also pretty intent on finding was Golden Spoon, the frozen yogurt spot where Kristin and a friend met for dessert and she talked about the pasta she made Steven for dinner the night before and how it “smelled like feet.” I recognized this spot right away when we drove down Broadway to Downtown Laguna.

img_0980.jpg Pasta Pomodoro, the site of every single date that ever took place on Laguna Beach is located just a few blocks away on Forest Aveune. It must be the only restaurant in Laguna that allows cameras. 🙂

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: LC’s guardshack is located at 32350 Coast Highway, at the corner of Vista Del Sol, a couple miles south of Downtown Laguna. I would recommend parking across the street and a little bit north from the guard shack for the best views of the house. The actual house is located at 29 Vista Del Sol. The Golden Spoon and Pomodoro are both located in Downtown Laguna, at 272 Broadway St. and 234 Forest Avenue, respectively.

Lauren Conrad’s Park La Brea Apartment

dscn0156.jpg

Since LC will soon be moving on up, I thought I’d put up her old address for people to stalk while they still have the chance. On The Hills, Lauren’s apartment was always referred to as “The Hillside Villas in West Hollywood”, but LC’s apartment was actually located in Los Angeles in a complex called The Villas at Park La Brea.

I found this location last year on one of my favorite sites – www.tvgasm.com. Apparently there had been some disagreement between fans as to whether LC lived at the Pallazo in Park La Brea or at The Villas at Park La Brea. TVgasm set the record straight and right after reading the article I set out for The Villas, camera in hand.

dscn0159.jpg

You will definitely recognize the entrance on South Burnside Avenue as the spot where Heidi, looking quite sullen, waved goodbye to Lauren as she drove off in a UHaul with Spencer. (That’s why I’m pretending to look sad in this pic.) 🙂 It’s also the spot where Brody said good-bye to Lauren this season when she left for Paris.

You can check out the website for The Villas at Park La Brea here. The site even shows what availability they have. I wonder if Lauren’s old apartment is up there yet!

[ad]

Stalk It: The Villas at Park La Brea are located at 5555 W. 6th Street in Los Angeles. right at the corner of Burnside Avenue and West 6th Street. You can make an appointment to view available apartments by calling (877)230-6271. For $2135 a month you, too, can live at Lauren’s former stomping grounds!

Just heard that LC from The Hills is moving on up out of her Park La Brea apartment into a house in LA. Thanks to one of my favorite celeb location blogs – The Real Estalker – www.realestalker.blogspot.com – you can see the inside of it. 🙂

According to Real Estalker, Lauren’s house is on North Orange Grove Avenue in Los Angeles. Of course, I just had to do a little Google searching to see if I could come up with the exact address and sure enough I found a whole site about the house: http://trulia.prudentialcal.com/Listing/ListingDetail.aspx?Listing=26258682

Can’t wait to go stalk it! 🙂

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: LC’s new digs are located at 1627 N. Orange Grove Avenue in Los Angeles. Remember this is a private home, so no trespassing or bothering our favorite Laguna Beach alum!

The Friends Apartment

img_02071.jpg

Another one of my must-see New York filming locations from my first trip to the Big Apple was the Friends Apartment. The apartment is actually located right in the same neighborhood as Carrie’s brownstone and SJP’s house. I could hardly contain myself as we walked up to the building – I felt like I had waited years to see it in person and here I was!

img_02172.jpg

The building is actually pretty unremarkable in person and chances are if it wasn’t featured on TV for ten seasons, you’d probably walk right by it without even giving it a second glance. But thanks to TV magic, it will be forever stalked and remembered. Be on the lookout for the countless tour-groups walking by the building – we saw three stop by in the ten minutes we were there! My boyfriend was thankful he was dating a stalker and didn’t have to shell out $65 for a look at the Friends Apartment. 🙂

img_0218.jpg

New York’s narrowest house (only 9 1/2 feet wide!) is located just a block away at 75 1/2 Bedford Street. John Barrymore and poet Edna St. Vincent Millay have both called it home.

I found both locations in one of my favorite tour books – “New York: The Movie Lover’s Guide” by Richard Alleman. You can pick it up on Amazon.

I highly recommend purchasing it before any visit to NY. 🙂

img_02141.jpg

Stalk It: The Friends Apartment is located at 90 Bedford Street, at the corner of Bedford and Grove, in Greenwich Village. You’ll recognize it immediately when you walk up to it. The many tour-groups stopped in front might give it away, too! A quick tip for posing for photos at the apartment – be sure to stand in the middle of the street and not directly in front of the building – otherwise you’ll come out too small in the pic. After your Friends stalking adventure, stop in to Chumley’s at 86 Bedford Street for a drink and a bite to eat. Chumley’s is a former speakeasy and still resides in an unmarked building. You can even enter through the secret entryway leftover from the prohibition days!

Take a Tour of the Charmed House!

Just got a comment on my Charmed page from Gary, who heard tours are given of the interior of the Charmed House and he needed me to investigate!

After scouring Google, I found this website which describes walking tours of Angelino Heights (where the Charmed House is located) given by the Los Angeles Conservancy. According to the author of the blog, the owner of the Charmed home allows guests on the tour to view the interior of his property. You can learn more about the tour and make reservations on the Los Angeles Conservancy’s website.

Scroll down to “Angelino Heights” under “Tour Descriptions” to learn more about the tour.

Don’t be disappointed when you see the interior, though. While Charmed does use the Carroll Avenue home to film exteriors, the interiors are filmed exclusively on a sound-stage.

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: Tours of Angelino Heights are given the first Saturday of every month at 10am. You can make reservations here. The Conservancy recommends booking far in advance. This tour sounds pretty incredible, even for those who aren’t Charmed fans. You will get to see some incredible architecture and some of the most unique homes in Los Angeles!

Beverly Hills, 90210!

90210 house

If you lived out your high school years sometime during the nineties, I am sure you were as obsessed with Beverly Hills, 90210 as I was. Big houses, fancy cars, expensive clothes, Luke Perry – what was not to love about the teen soap opera? The Walsh Family’s Spanish Style Beverly Hills home was the very first filming location I ever found – and it is still my very favorite! For some odd reason, I am still just as crazy obsessed with 90210 now as I was 10 years ago when it was on the air!

The Walsh House is not actually located in Beverly Hills. Like many of the other 90210 filming locations, the home is located in  the Pasadena area. It looks much the same as it did back in the 90210days, and most people will be interested to know that real life boy and girl twins live there. Legend has it that the interior of the home, including Brandon and Brenda’s shared bathroom, was modeled after the real home’s interior. The house is still owned by the same family as it was in the 90210 days. The father was a Pasadena area school teacher who was able to retire due to the money he made from his home being used on such a popular TV show! When you drive by, be sure to look down the driveway for the basketball hoop attached to the garage. Yes, it’s the same one where Brandon and Jim often played driveway basketball and talked about their new life in Beverly Hills.

Unlike most homes used in television shows, the house on Altadena Drive was actually used as a filming location many times during the years 90210 was on the air.  For most TV productions, film crews simply shoot a few establishing shots of exteriors that they then use over and over again during the course of a show’s run. But 90210 often returned to the actual home to shoot on location. A few episodes you might remember – when the Walsh twins discover Emily Valentine has left brownies at their front door; when Brandon’s girlfriend from Minnesota comes to visit and chooses to ride in Dylan’s Porsche rather than Brandon’s car, Mondale; after Jackie and Mel’s wedding when Dylan goes speeding off in his Porsche leaving Brenda at the curb pining after him; and when 49er Quarterback Steve Young plays a game of football with Brandon in their front yard.

img_1832.jpg

Conveniently located just a few doors down from the Walsh Home, on the corner of East Altadena Dr. and Porter Avenue is Dylan McKay’s craftsman bungalow. The home is much bigger in person than it seemed when it played the role of bachelor pad for emancipated minor Dylan McKay. Not only is it a beautiful home, but it is also an excellent representation of the Craftsman Style architecture that is popular in Pasadena.

When the Peach Pit was remodeled during Season Two of Beverly Hills, 90210, the filmmakers used Ruby’s Diner in Pasadena to film the exterior of the gang’s hangout. Unfortunately, Ruby’s Diner closed its doors in 2005, and a new restaurant moved in. Although little has changed on the exterior of the old Ruby’s Diner, it is pretty hard to recognize the place as Brandon and Brenda’s home away from home. The new restaurant has been painted a bright yellow, but the double silver doors that used to open to the Peach Pit, remain.

file000.jpg

The Beverly Hills Beach Club is another sad story, as this filming location no longer exists. It was badly damaged during the Northridge Earthquake and was never repaired. At the present time it is being torn down to build a new beach club. It used to be located at 415 Pacific Coast Highway, next to the Back on the Beach restaurant. The beach club has an interesting history, as it was originally a 118 room mansion built by William Randloph Hearst for his mistress Marion Davies. In 1955, the main house was torn down and the servants quarters were turned into the Sand and Sea Club, which closed in 1991, just as Beverly Hills, 90210 was heating up. After the Northridge Quake, the property was boarded up and fenced in and it sat vacant for years. One used to be able to walk right up to it and spot where Kelly and the gang spent their many summers.

Note – this was the very same beach club that was used during one summer season of Saved by the Bell – the same summer that Zack fell in love with Stacey Carossi.

Most of these locations I found in one of my favorite stalking books, “The Ultimate Hollywood Tour  Book” by William L. Holden.  It is a GREAT resource for stalkers everywhere!

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: Brandon and Brenda’s home is located at 1675 East Altadena Dr. in Altadena, CA. You can exit directly onto Altadena Drive off the 210 Freeway – just head north about three miles and the home will be on your right. Dylan’s home is located about half a block away at 1605 E. Altadena Dr. I recommend making a right on Porter Avenue and then a left on Crest Dr. to see the extent of the property. It’s pretty incredible. You can find the Peach Pitt a few miles away at 45 S. Fair Oaks Avenue in Old Town Pasadena.

The Beach Club used to be located in Santa Monica at 415 Pacific Coast Highway.  You can still see some remnants of the Club today, but sadly, most of it has already been torn down.  I would recommend grabbing breakfast next door, at Back on the Beach Restaurant and afterwards walking by the former beach club.  Be sure to try the mocha’s at Back on the Beach – they are fantastic!

Star Stalking – East Coast Style

claire-danes.jpg Well, here I am back on the West Coast – wishing I was still in New York! 🙁 I had a fabulous time in Manhattan and did a ton of stalking! I am exhausted tonight, so I will have to save my longer NYC posts for later. But I wanted to say that I did spot Claire Danes walking on Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District on Friday morning. I seriously doubt she was walking around looking for Samantha’s apartment or the bar from 13 Going On 30 like I was, but I was excited to see her just the same. She was very tall in person – well, tall by Hollywood standards – I’d say about 5’7 or 5’8 and very blond. I didn’t talk to her, but I did snap a pic on my Blackberry. 🙂 It’s kinda fuzzy, but if you zoom in you can see it’s her!

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Miami-Dade-Hawthorne-California Police Department

Me Doing My Best Horatio Cane! My favorite CSI is CSI: Miami and I was absolutely obsessed with finding the location used as the Miami-Dade police department.  One of my good friends had an audition for CSI: Miami and, knowing what a stalker I am, he took me with him to the CSI:Miami  studio in Redondo Beach so that I could scout locations.  I was hoping the building was located somewhere inside the studio gates, but alas, I was wrong.

I ended up finding the location on the website www.seeing-stars.com, while stalking filming sites from another show – The O.C – where the same site was used as The Newport Group building.

Miami-Dade PD is located in Hawthorne, California and is actually the headquarters for the F.A.A. Federal Credit Union.  I highly recommend visiting this unusual building – even if you are not a fan of The O.C. or CSI: Miami – it is an amazing sight to behold.  The curvature of the exterior walls almost gives you the feeling of vertigo.

Me doing my best Horatio Cane!Me doing my best Horatio Caine imitation!

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: Miami-Dade Police Department is located at 14600 Aviation Blvd. in Hawthorne, California, pretty close to LAX and just off the 405 Freeway.  Drive slowly down Aviation Blvd. as the building is set far back from the road and you might drive right by it without seeing it.  Peek inside and you’ll see that the CSI: Miami sets were modeled after the real interior.  I would try to visit the building on a weekday – you just might see the cast and crew filming an episode!  I would definitely recommend visiting www.seeing-stars.com as well – it is a great stalking site!

Charmed, I’m Sure!

Charmed House

Just got a challenge to find the Charmed house – but that is an easy one!  🙂  The Charmed house is located on Carroll Avenue, a historic block of Victorian homes near Echo Park that is used constantly for filming.  The Charmed house is the purple one located at 1329 Carroll Avenue – and the same home was also used in Sweet Dreams, Of Mice and Men, and Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo.

Thriller House

My favorite filming location on Carroll Avenue is located at 1345 – the haunted house from Thriller.  It still looks as spooky and run down as it did back when MJ filmed there and is a great place to visit around Halloween.  I always make it a part of my Haunted Hollywood tour in October.  🙂

[ad]

Thriller House 1

It should look familiar from this angle. These locations were easy to find – they were identified in my favorite Hollywood tour book – Hollywood: The Movie Lover’s Guide by Richard Alleman.  I highly recommend purchasing this book before doing any Hollywood touring.

Doing the Thriller dance.

I just can’t seem to resist doing the Thriller dance!

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It:Carroll Avenue is located right off the 2 Freeway.  Take the Glendale Blvd. exit and make a left on Bellevue Avenue.  Finally make a left on East Edgeware Road which will lead you to Carroll.  I would recommend parking your car and walking the length of the street.  There are some amazing homes to look at – even if they aren’t all filming locations.  Be sure to notice the old time street ties where people would tie up their horses back in the day.

My So-Called Weekend

Uni High

I know My So-Called Life has been off the air for over 8 years now, but I am still slightly obsessed with it.  When one of my co-workers told me that MSCL was filmed at his high school, University High School in West LA, I set out to have a My So-Called Weekend!

University High School, aka Uni High, is located at 11800 Texas Avenue.  Although the front of the high school is quite impressive, it was the back staircase that was actually used as Lincoln High in MSCL.  Uni High has a pretty impressive filming history – it was also used in Seventh Heaven, Drillbit Taylor, and Lizzie McGuire – just to name a few.

Staircase

As soon as I came to the bottom of Uni’s back staircase, I immediately recognized it as Angela Chase’s alma mater.  You might remember the staircase from the Halloween episode, when Rayanne spent a great deal of time waiting for Angela at the flagpole located at the top of the stairs.

dscn0195.jpg

cap0028.jpg

Now it was time to find the Chase Home.  I had a hunch the house was located in South Pasadena, as the producers of MSCL were also the producers of thirtysomething – which was filmed primarily in South Pas.  I knew that the address number of the MSCL house was 1110, thanks to the website www.mscl.com – which had several pictures of the real home used in the filming.  So – armed with a pretty big hunch that the house would be in the same vicinity as the thirtysomething houses – my boyfriend and I drove up and down South Pasadena streets looking at every single home with a 1110 address until we located the house.

dscn0196.jpg

cap0014.jpg

Success came pretty quickly when we found the home at 1110  Glendon Way.  The home has been painted since MSCL aired and looks a lot different, but it was still exciting to be there, standing in Angela Chase’s footsteps.  And I just had to take a picture mimicking that famous screen shot from the end of the pilot episode when Angela is standing in the middle of the street with her new red hair.  🙂

Stalk It: I would recommend visiting Uni High on a weekend because soccer games are held on the campus on weekends, and one is allowed to walk around without being bothered.  Uni High is located at 11800 Texas Avenue in West Los Angeles.  The Chase Home is located in South Pasadena at 1110 Glendon Way, just off Fair Oaks Avenue.  While you are in the neighborhood, stop by the Fair Oaks Pharmacy at 1526 Misson St. for an ice cream Sundae.  The Fair Oaks Pharmacy opened in 1915 and is an old time pharmacy with a real soda fountain – and it just happened to be used as a filming location in the movie Mr. Deeds.
