  • The Mansion Where Brad and Jen Got Married

    screenshot982

There are some events in history that people remember as if they occurred just yesterday.  For instance, my mom remembers exactly where she was, right down to what she was wearing, on November 22, 1963 when she found out that President Kennedy had been murdered.  Well, I wasn’t alive when JFK was assassinated or when man first walked on the moon.  But I do remember exactly where I was and what I was wearing on July 30thof 2000 when it was announced that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston had finally gotten married.  🙂  Now, some may not qualify that event as being historic, or even memorable, but for me it was.   I was in Hawaii with my family at the time and the day beforehand I had found out that one of my closest friends had passed away.  I was absolutely inconsolable.  My parents didn’t really know what to do with me, so they decided to bring me down to the hotel bar in the hopes that a cocktail and a sunset might bring me some sort of comfort.  As we sat at that outdoor bar watching the waves crash on the sand, I heard Jennifer Aniston’s name on the television set behind me and my ears perked up.  The announcer stated that sources had confirmed that my girl Jen had married Brad Pitt in a ceremony on a Malibu bluff the previous evening.  And it was the first time I smiled in days.  🙂   So, a few weeks ago, when I found the location of the mansion where Brad and Jen tied the knot, I just had to go stalk it.

    screenshot867

I had read long ago that Brad and Jen had tied the knot at a five acre seaside estate belonging to television producer Marcy Carsey (of 3rd Rock From the Sun, Roseanne, and The Cosby Show fame) that was located on the 33000 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.  But I had no idea of the home’s exact location.  Until I found this fabulous website, which led me to the right spot.  🙂  Yay!  From what I can tell from the few photographs released of the couple’s nuptials, the actual wedding ceremony took place on the circular patch of lawn located in front of Marcy’s home.  Their reception took place in a large tent on an empty parcel of land located just south of the estate.  You can see the wedding set up in the above paparazzi photograph, which was taken the day of Brad and Jen’s wedding.

    img_6566-800

Unfortunately, virtually none of the home is visible from the street.  🙁

    img_6571-800

If you head a few hundred feet up nearby Decker Canyon Road, you can just make out the outline of the mansion’s roof . . .

    img_6567-800

. . . and you can see the empty patch of land where Brad and Jen’s reception was held.  But other than that, sadly, there’s not a whole lot to see.  🙁

    screenshot986

Which is why God created aerial images.  🙂  LOL  You can see a great aerial photo of Brad and Jen’s wedding mansion here.

    [ad]

According to People Magazine, Brad and Jen’s wedding cost over $1 million and featured 50,000 flowers, a 13 minute fireworks display, four live bands, and a gospel choir!  Their 200 person guest list was strictly A-List, and included Courteney Cox and David Arquette, Edward Norton and Salma Hayek (who were dating at the time), Cameron Diaz, Melissa Etheridge (who serenaded the couple), David Schwimmer, Kathy Najimy, Dermot Mulroney, Jon Lovitz, David Spade, and Lisa Kudrow.   During their vows Jen promised to always make Brad’s “favorite banana milkshake” and Brad vowed to “split the difference on the thermostat”.  Knowing how things turned out after that little homewrecker Angelina Jolie got her claws into Brad, doesn’t the whole thing kinda bring a tear to your eye? 🙁

    img_6568-8001

Located directly next door to the estate where Brad and Jen got married, is the 19,340 square foot mega-mansion originally owned by Verna Harrah, widow of William F. Harrah, who was the founder of the famous casino hotels of the same name.  In December of 1999, Verna sold her collosal mansion to Mark Reynolds Hughes, creator of Herbalife Vitamins, for a cool $27 million.  Less than six months later, Hughes passed away of an alleged prescription drug and alcohol overdose in the master bedroom of the home.  He was 44.   The manse was subsequently purchased by billionaire venture capitalist Howard Marks.

    screenshot988

And it looks to me as if Howard also purchased the once empty parcel of land where Brad and Jen held their tented wedding reception and which originally belonged to the Carsey estate.  As you can see in the above aerial photographs of the two neighboring properties, it looks as if the Howards moved their property line over quite a bit.

    img_6570-800

Even though not much of Brad and Jen’s wedding mansion can be seen from the street, I was still floored to finally be stalking it.  And even though their wedding occured during a difficult time in my life and their marriage ended rather unamicably, somehow thinking back on the day when I learned about my idol’s nuptials still manages to bring a smile to my face.  🙂

Until next time, Happy Stalking!  🙂

Stalk It: Brad and Jen’s wedding mansion is located at 33148 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.  Mark Reynolds Hughes’ former house is located directly next door at 33064 Pacific Coast Highway.  For the best views of the homes, head a few hundred feet up Decker Canyon Road, which is located just south of the properties.

  • George Clooney’s Former Digs

    img_1086-800

This past weekend, thanks to my new favorite book Movie Star Homes: The Famous to the Forgotten, I was able to stalk George Clooney’s former Studio City house.  Now, to be completely honest, I am not a big fan of George Clooney.  I’ll admit that he’s OK-looking, but for some reason he just doesn’t do it for me.  No, this stalker’s heart will forever and always belong to Josh Duhamel.  🙂  But, being that pretty much every woman on earth is absolutely gaga for GC, I know that I am in the vast minority on this one.  So ,when I saw the address of his former home listed in the Movie Star Homes  book, I just had to stalk it.  For my readers, of course.  🙂

    [ad]

    img_1085-800

George Clooney’s former home is a really pretty 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom Mediteranean mini-manse, located on a windy street in the hills of Studio City.  He lived in this 3,282 square foot home during the years 1990 to 1997, smack dab in the middle of his ER fame.  Which is surprising being that the home isn’t that private – you can actually see quite a bit of it from the street.  George shared the house with former wife Talia Balsam during their brief four year marriage, from December of 1989 to September of 1993.  After his separation, George invited good friend, actor Matt Adler, to move in with him for a brief period of time.   But the list of celebrity inhabitants doesn’t end there!  From 2000 to 2004, Jamie Pressly of My Name is Earl  fame owned George’s former digs.  She then sold the house to Malcom in the Middle  star Justin Berfield, who lived there for two years before selling it to a non-celeb.

    screenshot706

I highly recommend stalking George’s former pad, as it is one of the few movie star homes that isn’t completely hidden behind a large gate.  🙂  I couldn’t snap many good pics of it, though, as George’s former street is quite narrow and my camera couldn’t zoom back far enough to get the whole house in the shot.  🙁  I so need to spring for a fisheye lens!   But the good news is you can cyber-stalk his former home here.

Until next time, Happy Stalking!  🙂

Stalk It: George Clooney’s former house is located at 11655 Laurelcrest Drive in Studio City.

  • Where The American Idol Contestants Live

    img_1209-800

    screenshot693

Even though American Idol  is not a show I regularly watch, I was completely floored to find a two page article in this week’s US Magazine  featuring the mansion the current Idol contestants are calling home.  I love me some celebrity real estate!   And while US  didn’t give the exact location of the Idol  pad, it did publish several photos of the 35,000 square foot manse and stated that it was located somewhere in Bel Air.  Well I, of course, got to cyberstalking and it wasn’t long before I had located the Mediterranean style home.  And I immediately dragged my boyfriend right out to stalk it.  🙂

    screenshot691

    screenshot694

In years past, the Idol  contestants were put up in an exclusive apartment building called The Marlow which I blogged about last year.  Well, the economy may be bad, but the Idol  finalists are movin’ on up, because this season they are residing in a rented four story, nine bedroom, twenty bathroom (I’m not kidding!) mansion that sits on over an acre of well-manicured land.  According to one real estate website, the home, which was originally built in 1927, boasts two pools (one indoor, one outdoor), a gym, a screening room, a bowling alley, an elevator, an indoor basketball court, a steam room, a jacuzzi, and private guest quarters.  It sounds like Disneyland!  I swear, put in a Starbucks and I’d never leave the place.  🙂  FOX has also sprung for a live-in chef, who cooks up healthy meals for the Idols  daily. You can see great indoor photos of the house on some real estate websites here and here.  And you can watch a video of the Idols moving into their new home here.

    [ad]

    img_1213-800

    img_1214-800

Sadly, there’s not a whole lot of the home that is visible from the street, excluding some large exterior gates.  I could see about ten cars parked in the driveway, though, so it seems that the Idols were allowed to bring their cars with them to California.  🙂

    img_1216-800

There are numerous differing online reports as to whether the Idol  mansion is currently for sale.  From what I can gather from the many conflicting accounts I’ve read, I believe the mansion was on the market for quite some time back in 2006 at a price of $43 million.  After over 200 days with no sale, that price was dropped to $29,995,000.  After an $18,500,000 deal fell through in 2008, the house was eventually taken off the market altogether.  It is currently available for lease at a rate of $85,000 per month.  The sign pictured above was on the ground in front of the mansion when I was stalking it.  I wonder if one of the Idol  hopefuls took it down in hopes that they would be able to buy the mansion themselves after landing a record deal.  LOL If you have the $85,000 a month to shell out to rent the place, it should be available in about ten weeks when Idol  is over.  🙂

Until next time, Happy Stalking! 🙂

  • Helen Twelvetrees’ House

    screenshot636

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a book that is quickly shaping up to be my new stalking tome.  It’s called Movie Star Homes: The Famous to the Forgotten and it features photographs and addresses of over 350 celebrity homes, most of them from the Golden Age of Hollywood.  I have never really been much into the celebs of yesteryear (except for my girl Marilyn), but once I picked up this book I really couldn’t put it down.  It wasn’t long before I had about thirty pages dog-eared and was dragging my boyfriend out the door with a whole new set of locations to stalk.

    img_1071-800

The first location on my list?  The former home of a 30’s movie star whom you’ve probably never heard of, but whom I’ve always had a special place in my heart for –  Helen Twelvetrees.  I’ve never actually seen any of Helen’s movies, nor do I even really know what she looks like.  But back when I was about 18, I came home from college one day and announced to my family that I was switching my major from pre-law to theatre because I wanted to become an actress.  It was at that moment that my grandfather started calling me Helen Twelvetrees.  My grandpa was always making up silly little nicknames for various family members, so I didn’t really think anything of it.  For years this went on, with my grandpa saying “Well, if it isn’t Helen Twelvetrees!” every time I walked into a room and me thinking it was a name he had made up for me.  It wasn’t until after my grandfather passed away in 2005 that I came across a listing for Helen on IMDB and realized that she had in fact been a real person – not to mention a big time movie star back in the ’30s.

    img_1070-800

    img_1073-800

So, when I saw the address of a home Helen lived in during the ’30s in my new stalking book, I just about fell out of my chair.  And, of course, I immediately dragged my boyfriend right out to stalk it.  So, Grandpa, this ones for you!  🙂  Helen’s former home is a very cute little Mediterranean style dwelling located on a one way street in the Whitley Heights section of Los Angeles.   And, as it turns out, the house is currently for sale!  While the real estate listing makes no mention of its famous former resident, it does indicate that the 3,000 square foot home, which was built in 1923, has parquet floors, crown moldings, and a hot tub.  The asking price is a cool $1,150,000.

    img_1074-800

My favorite feature of the house, though, is the view of the Hollywood sign from the front yard.  Love it!  🙂  You can see interior photos of Helen’s former home on its real estate listing here

    img_1101-800

    img_1099-800

According to my buddy EJ over at The Movieland Directory, Rose McGowen and Rachel Bilson both owned a home located just a few doors down from Helen’s.    The house pictured above was first owned by Miss McGowan who sold it to Rachel in November of 2004.  Rachel then sold the house just a little over a year later in December of ’05.  And it was sold yet again this past January for $1,075,000.  I also read on this website that Busy Phillips owned the very same house at one point in time, but I haven’t been able to confirm that.  Seems like it’s a pretty lucky house, though, being that several successful actresses have lived in it.   I need to get me one of those!  🙂  You can see interior photos of the home here.

Until next time, Happy Stalking!  🙂

    img_1072-800

Stalk It: Helen Twelvetrees’ former home is located just off the 101 Freeway at 6851 Iris Circle in Hollywood.  Rachel Bilson and Rose McGowan’s former house is just down the road at 6867 Iris Circle.

  • Gwyneth Paltrow’s Former New York Digs

    img_1561

While doing some stalking in New York this past December, I just had to snap a photo of Gwyneth Paltrow’s former Greenwich Village townhome, which just happens to be located right around the corner from SJP’s house. Gwyn purchased this Greek Revival style townhouse back in 1998 when she was still a single New York gal. She later lived in the four story, four bedroom home with musician husband Chris Martin and their produce-monikered daughter, Apple. The couple decided to put the townhouse on the market in February of 2005 in order to move to a safer building with a doorman – no doubt to help keep the paparazzi at bay. The home ended up selling in June of ’05 for the bargain price of $6.995 million.

    img_14711

I found this location thanks to my go-to NYC stalking guide John’s Star Maps. Gwyneth’s picturesque former townhome was built in 1899, is 2,800 square feet, and boasts a basement, 3.5 baths, a garden, a rooftop terrace and two washers and dryers. Which begs the question – who does that much laundry??? LOL You can view the home’s 2005 real estate listing here. Gwyn’s house actually reminds me a lot of Kate Hudson’s New York pad which I blogged about a couple of weeks ago and is pictured above. That’s somewhat ironic because Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson actually remind me a lot of each other, too.

Until next time, Happy Stalking! 🙂

Stalk It: Gwyneth’s former Greenwich Village home is located at 278 West Fourth Street. She currently owns a 3,982 square foot condo in the River Lofts Condo building, located at 92 Laight Street in Tribeca. Meryl Streep also lives in the same building.

  • The Dakota

    img_1678

Today is the 28th anniversay of John Lennon’s death, so I thought I would devote today’s blog to him. I have never really been much into music (my idea of a music icon is Britney Spears, if that tells you anything!) so I was never a fan of John Lennon or the Beatles. My mom, however, loved The Beatles (especially Ringo Starr) and during her teenage years even climbed up the side of a Japanese hotel where the Beatles were staying to try to catch a glimpse of him. She also snuck backstage during a Beach Boys concert, ran up to Dennis Wilson, kissed him on the lips, then ran back out, but that’s a whole other story. Now at least you know where I get it from. 🙂 Anyway, since my family always takes a New York vacation during the first week of December, I often find myself in Manhattan on the anniversary of John’s murder. Last December 8th my boyfriend and I decided to stop by both John’s former apartment building and his memorial to see if anything was going on. And boy was there!

    img_1679

Johns’ memorial, which is called Strawberry Fields, is a 2.5 acre tear-dropped shaped section of Central Park that was commissioned by Yoko Ono and designed by landscape architect Bruce Kelly. The memorial, which is considered an international peace garden, was opened to the public on October 9, 1985 (John’s birthday). The garden consists of 161 different varieties of flowers and plants, one representing each country of the world. Each year, on the anniversary of his death, countless fans make a pilgrimage to the memorial to honor his memory. Last year there were so many people there I couldn’t even get a picture of the famous “Imagine” plaque which was donated to the memorial by the Italian city of Naples. It’s amazing to me that 28 years after his death John can still draw such a huge crowd. On the anniversary of his death, most mourners pretty much camp out at the memorial for the entire day, singing Beatles songs, sharing John Lennon stories, and grieving the death of the legendary musician. It is really a site to behold. Last year, amid news crews conducting interviews, musicians singing tributes, and tourists taking photographs, I just had to snap a photo of the “Designated Quiet Zone” sign which sits at the entrance to the memorial. LOL

    img_1681

After visiting Strawberry Fields, I dragged my boyfriend across the street to John Lennon’s former residence, the Dakota apartment building. It was at the entrance to this building that John was killed 28 years ago today. On December 8, 1980, after finishing a session at a recording studio, John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono were driven by limo to their Upper West Side apartment just a few minutes before 11pm. As they made their way to the entrance of the building, deranged fan Mark David Chapman shot Lennon four times in the back. John collapsed in the entryway of the Dakota and was pronounced dead a short time later while on an operating table at Roosevelt Hospital.

    img_0331

The beautiful and unique Dakota apartment building has long been a celebrity haven. John and Yoko weren’t the only stars to call it home. Lauren Bacall, Judy Holliday, Jack Palance, John Madden, Judy Garland, Rosemary Clooney, Gilda Radner, Paul Simon, Connie Chung and Boris Karloff have all lived at the building at one time or another. The Dakota is also a popular filming location! It was featured in Vanilla Sky (as Tom Cruise’s apartment), Rosemary’s Baby (as Mia Farrow’s pad), and House of Strangers.

    img_0668

Construction was completed on the famous Dakota Apartment building in the year 1884. It was built by architect Harry J. Hardenbergh, who also designed the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Carnegie Hall and, my favorite building in all of New York, the famed Plaza Hotel. The Dakota is very similar in looks to the Plaza, actually, with the same peaked slate and copper roofs, corner turrets, and French chateau accents. The Dakota is absolutely stunning in person and I highly recommend stalking it – even if you aren’t a Lennon fan!

    img_0669

Until next time, Happy Stalking! 🙂

Stalk It: The Dakota is located at 1 West 72nd Street on the Upper West Side of New York. Strawberry Fields memorial is located just across the street from the Dakota in Central Park. The entrance to the 2.5 acre memorial begins at Central Park West and 72nd Street.

  • Tori Spelling’s Dream House

    img_1194

Just found out that Tori Spelling is moving – and to “The Valley”, no less!! The reality TV queen recently listed her Westwood home for a cool $2,395,000. Now mind you, Tori and her husband Dean only purchased this home a short nine months ago, in February of 2008. Fickle, much? This is the same home that she had repeatedly described as her “dream house” on her reality series Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. (Yes, I watch Tori & Dean – I can’t help myself!) This is also the home she fought so hard to purchase, even though it was a bit out of their “budget” – they paid $2,275,000. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever have guessed that Tori Spelling lived on a budget. LOL

Anyway, when I found out the house was for sale, I just had to run right out to stalk it! What’s interesting to note about this home, is that while the inside of it was featured prominently on Home Sweet Hollywood, the exterior was not actually shown. For that, producers apparently used a Woodland Hills house – probably to throw off stalkers like me. 🙂

    img_1192

Tori’s house, while in an adorable neighborhood, is just plain average on the outside. It is so strange to picture mega-millionaire Aaron Spelling’s daughter living here. It is such a normal house – with no gate, wall, or tall hedges to keep paparazzi at bay. Their street is really cute, though, and there seemed to be a lot of young families playing with their kids in their front yards.

You can see interior pics on the home’s real estate website. Those who watched Tori’s reality series will definitely recognize parts of the interior, such as the kitchen, stairwell, and living room. The interior of the home is a bit too ornate for my taste, and oh my gawd Baby Stella’s room look like a pepto bismol bottle threw up all over it, but it actually looks like exactly the sort of place I’d picture Tori Spelling to reside in.

Until next time, Happy Stalking! 🙂

Stalk It: Tori and Dean’s former home is located at 1955 Thayer Avenue in Westwood.

  • Bugsy Siegel’s House

Just around the corner from the Witch’s House in Beverly Hills is one of the most famous crime scenes in Hollywood history – the home where legendary mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel was murdered on June 20, 1947. This home is often cited as being owned by the famous mobster at the time of his death, but in reality it was leased by his girlfriend, actress Virginia Hill. Born on February 28, 1906 to a poor Brooklyn family, Bugsy, who by all accounts absolutely loathed his nickname, went own to become one of the most notorious and cold-blooded mobsters in history.

On that fateful night in 1947, Bugsy returned home from a dinner with friends and retreated to his living room with two friends. The living room area of his house is located to the right of the front door and the windows of that room are pictured above.

At 10:45 pm, while Bugsy sat on his couch reading the Los Angeles Times, his murderer crept up a neighbor’s driveway and fired off nine rounds from a 30/30 shotgun through a side window of Bugsy’s house. Four of those rounds hit Busgy in the head, killing him immediately and sending one of his eyeballs clear across the room. YUCK! The cold-blooded mobster, who is often credited with “creating Las Vegas” was dead at 41. His murder has never been solved.

On an interesting side note, about a year before Bugsy’s death, on July 7, 1946, Howard Hughes crashed one of his airplanes into two homes located across the street from Bugsy’s death house, almost killing himself in the process. One of the homes he crashed into is pictured above.

Bugsy’s death was famously re-enacted in the movie Bugsy, starring Warren Beatty and Annette Benning. But, for reasons unknown, producers did not use the real life home where his murder took place for the filming of the biopic. Instead a home in Hancock Park was used (pictured above).

A HUGE thank you to E.J. from The Movieland Directory for sharing with me a chapter from his book, Hollywood Death and Scandal Sites , and a wealth of information on the life and death of Bugsy Siegel for this post. When I first started writing this entry, I asked E.J. if he had any good stories about Bugsy’s home to share with me. About twenty pages of reading material from E.J. later, this post was born. 🙂 Thanks, E.J.!

Until next time, Happy Stalking! 🙂

Stalk It: Bugsy’s real life former home and death site is located at 810 North Linden Drive, in Beverly Hills. Howard Hughes’ crash site is located just across the street at 903 and 905 North Linden Drive. The home where Bugsy dies in the movie about his life is located at 425 S. Plymouth Boulevard in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles.

  • Celebrity Jury Duty

Last September I was called to report for jury duty at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Downtown Los Angeles. As you can probably guess, I was not too excited for this venture. I perked up, though, when on my first day of service, I arrived at the courthouse to see a whole slew of paparazzi standing out front. Hoping BritBrit was there for a custody hearing, I asked one of the paps what news story he was covering and it turns out he was awaiting the verdict in the Phil Spector murder trial. Later that day I ended up being selected to serve on a jury for a brief four day trial and was floored to find out that the Phil Spector trial was actually taking place in the courtroom directly next door to mine! Due to jury deliberations, though, Phil was not actually at the courthouse. But a few days later, on September 26th to be exact, I returned from lunch to see Phil and his wife waiting outside the courtroom for his verdict to be read. Phil was definitely an oddball and didn’t seem as if he was entirely all there. And boy is he tiny!!!! He is probably about 5′ tall – while wearing platforms, no less! Seeing Phil during jury duty was definitely an “Only-in-L.A.” moment for me and really made the whole thing worthwhile. 🙂 Other “Only-in-L.A.” moments: looking at the hundreds of celebrity headshots on the jury waiting room walls detailing which stars have served their public duty at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center and our jury orientation including directions to the nearest Starbucks! I am not kidding!

So in keeping with my October theme of all things haunted in Hollywood, I had to drag my boyfriend out to stalk Phil’s mansion this past weekend. It was at this home on February 3, 2003, that actress Lana Clarkson was shot to death – whether by her own hand or by Phil’s has yet to be determined. I got the address of Phil’s house from my very favorite star map – “The Movie Star Homes and Crime Scenes Map”. But, map or no map, I don’t think the home would have been hard to locate, as there is a large sign at the front gate which reads “Phil Spector’s Pyrenees Castle”.  Apparently before Lana’s death the sign read simply “Pyrenees Castle, 1700 Grand View Drive”, but during his murder trial he had it changed to its current wording. I swear, this guy couldn’t be more of a douchbag.

From the front gate of the home there is not a whole lot to see, other than signs warning against trespassing and alerting stalkers that the property is under 24 hour camera surveillance. There was no way I was getting out of the car for a photo op at this location as I imagine Phil doesn’t take too kindly to people posing for pics outside of his house. Then again, maybe he doesn’t mind too much – I mean he did put that sign out front!

After seeing the front gate area, we drove around to Alta Vista Drive where there is a much better view of the home from the street.

After hitting up Alta Vista Drive, we headed over to Parkview Drive for yet another view of the house.

Sadly none of the streets offered an outstanding view of the home, but you can cyberstalk it on Zillow to see some better photos. Phil’s castle/mansion is actually located in a very modest, middle class neighborhood far from the lavish streets of Beverly Hills. Until reading this article, I was under the impression that Phil had actually built the home, but it turns out it was constructed in 1926 long before the “Wall of Sound” had been created. A very successful Frenchman by the name of Sylvester Dupuy spent about $250,000 to have the home built and he modeled it after a real chateau in France that he had admired as a child. The house was built on a three acre lot in the middle of a large expanse of vacant land. In 1936, ten years after the home’s construction, Dupuy died and left the property to his children. At the time of Dupuy’s death most of the fortune he had amassed from his successful agriculture business was gone. In 1946, Dupuy’s children sold the castle and it was converted into an eight room apartment building where Dupuy’s widow lived until her death. After a string of different owners, Phil Spector purchased the home in 1998 and had this to say about it, “I’ve bought myself a beautiful and enchanting castle in a hick town where there is no place to go that you shouldn’t.” I wouldn’t exactly call Alhambra a “hick town”, but I guess to a famous record producer and in comparison to Beverly Hills, the city might seem a bit “hickish”.

I couldn’t figure out where the name “Pyrenees Castle” came from until looking at the above map. I believe at one time the castle’s land butted up to nearby Pyrenees Road, hence the name. In the years since its construction, much of the land must have been sold off and the property’s boundary line scaled back to Grand View Drive.

Until next time, Happy Stalking! 🙂

Stalk It: Phil Spector’s Pyrenees Castle is located at 1700 Grand View Drive in Alhambra. The main gate and sign reading “Phil Spector’s Pyrenees Castle” can be seen at the Grand View Drive entrance. But for the best views of the home, head over to Alta Vista Drive and follow it to where it ends at Phil’s back gate. After that, follow Parkview Drive to where it curves for a side view of the home.

  • Matthew Perry’s Former House

A few weeks ago, while doing some stalking with my boyfriend, I set out to stalk Matthew Perry’s former home. I got the address of “Ms. Chanadaler Bong’s” former residence thanks to E.J. over at The Movieland Directory. I must admit I was pretty disappointed upon arriving at the house, as there is just not all that much to see from the street other than Matthew’s ugly mailbox, which appears to be broken and unable to close.

I still don’t get what is up with the stars and their hiddy mailboxes!! LOL Anyway, while Matthew’s former house is pretty anti-climatic to stalk, what is significant about this home is that it was while living there that Matty crashed his Porsche into a neighbor’s front porch.

Back in June of 2000, on the very same day the troubled star was released from Cedar Sinai Medical Center after a stint with pancreatitus, Matthew crashed his car into the stairs leading up to the front door of a neighboring house (pictured above). According to reports, the house was unoccupied at the time. Apparently Matthew swerved to avoid an oncoming car and in doing so lost control of his Porsche and crashed. No drugs or alcohol were found in his system at the time. Driving along his street, though, it was not hard for me to see why Matthew lost control of his car. The roads surrounding his house are extremely narrow, with countless twists and turns, and I was actually worried I was going to get into a car accident while stalking.

The home Matty crashed into is a really cute little place. I am not sure if it looked like this before the crash, or if a hefty settlement from the Friends star is responsible for the house’s curb appeal Apparently the front stairs of the home were completely destroyed during the crash and had to be rebuilt entirely.

While I wouldn’t really recommend stalking Matthew’s former home, as there is just not much to see, you can catch a good Zillow view of the home here. 🙂

Until next time, Happy Stalking! 🙂
